Basalt

One of the most important activities of WATAD Group is the mining of Basalt stone which is used in the fields of Industry and construction. Basalt has a long history in construction and architecture as pavers and dimension stone. Basalt was used as stadium seating and street pavers throughout the Roman Empire. WATAD is considered as the largest producer and exporter of this type of stone in Jordan and holds a large marker share in the Gulf and European markets.

Today, WATAD’s basalt is commonly used as a crushed aggregate in construction projects. Crushed basalt is used for road base, concrete aggregate, asphalt pavement aggregate, railroad ballast, filter stone in drain fields. However, basalt is also cut into dimension stone. In thin slabs it is used for building veneers, flooring, etc. Whereas in its large chunks, it is used to create large durable stone objects, monuments and even art, and as basalt pavers in thicker cut applications.

The basalt stone from WATAD is available in several colors. Clients can choose from over a dozen of finishes for their stone projects. WATAD provides you with a choice of hand or machine finishes which can be applied, economically, to the basalt stone at the factory and then shipped to your site ready to install.

SAW CUT

Basalt with a saw-cut side finish involves the precision cutting of the stone using saws. This technique results in a clean and smooth appearance, making it suitable for applications such as flooring, countertops, and wall cladding. The saw-cut finish gives the basalt a modern and refined look, with sharp and well-defined edges. This style is favored for its contemporary aesthetic and versatility in various architectural and interior design projects.

TUMBLED

Basalt with a tumbled side finish undergoes a process of tumbling, creating a smooth and rounded edge. This technique imparts a weathered appearance, making it an excellent choice for a natural and timeless aesthetic. Ideal for various applications like flooring and wall treatments, tumbled basalt adds a touch of elegance and comfort to architectural and interior design projects. The softened edges contribute to a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, enhancing the overall appeal of the finished space.

SPLIT FACE

A basalt with a split-face side finish undergoes a process where the stone is split along its grain, resulting in a textured and uneven surface. This finish is characterized by its raw and rustic appearance, making it suitable for applications like feature walls and exterior cladding. The split-face texture adds visual interest and depth, providing a unique and dynamic look to architectural and design projects. This finish is favored for its ability to introduce a natural and earthy element, bringing a timeless and captivating aesthetic to various applications.
